Moscow, Russia (Sports Network) - Caroline Wozniacki outlasted top-seeded
Samantha Stosur to capture the title at the Kremlin Cup.
The third-seeded Wozniacki took down Stosur by a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 margin to
improve to 2-1 in finals this year. The Dane lost to Angelique Kerber in
Copenhagen back in April and beat Kaia Kanepi in Seoul last month.
Wozniacki, who improved to 2-7 versus top-10 opponents this year, now has 20
career singles titles.
"I think both of us played very good tennis out there," Wozniacki said. "Sam
has been playing well and I knew it wasn't going to be easy, and it could have
gone either way at the end, but I think at the right times I played the right
shots. There were a lot of key moments, but they just went my way."
Meanwhile, Stosur was looking to win her first tournament since capturing the
U.S. Open crown last September. The Aussie star fell short again and dropped
to 0-2 in finals this year.
Stosur owns a career mark of just 3-12 in title matches.
Wozniacki and Stosur have split six all-time meetings. The two met for the
first time in a final.
With the victory, Wozniacki took home $122,000.
