Luxembourg, Luxembourg (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 Venus Williams
and Romanian Monica Niculescu won semifinal matches Saturday and will play for
the title at the Luxembourg Open.
Williams rallied past German Andrea Petkovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to secure a spot in
Sunday's title match.
The unseeded Williams is trying to end the longest title drought of her
career, as she last captured a title at Acapulco in Feb. 2010. Williams has 43
singles titles overall.
Niculescu handled Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 6-1, 6-3 to advance to her
second career final. She lost to Victoria Azarenka at the Luxembourg final
last year.
Williams and Niculescu will meet for the first time Sunday.
The 2012 winner of this $220,000 tournament will earn $37,000.
