Tashkent, Uzbekistan (Sports Network) - Urszula Radwanska of Poland and
France's Alize Cornet were among the first-round winners Monday at the
Tashkent Open.
The second-seeded Radwanska notched a 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Spain's Maria-
Teresa Torro-Flor, while the third-seeded Cornet thumped Russia's Nina
Bratchikova, 6-1, 6-3.
Seventh-seeded Russian Alexandra Panova also advanced with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win
over Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova.
Other winners on the first day of play were Spain's Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino
and Uzbekistan wild card Sabina Sharipova. Arruabarrena-Vecino rolled to a
6-1, 6-2 victory over Slovakia's Jana Cepelova and Sharipova claimed a 6-4,
7-5 triumph over countrywoman Vlada Ekshibarova.
The top seed for this WTA International event is Romania's Monica Niculescu.
She is slated for first-round action on Tuesday against Italy's Karin Knapp.
