Flushing Meadows, NY (Sports Network) - French Open singles runner-up Sara
Errani and her fellow Italian Roberta Vinci reached the women's doubles final
at the 2012 U.S. Open.
Errani and Vinci, the No. 2 seeds, whipped an eighth-seeded Spanish tandem of
Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-3, 6-2 Thursday at
the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The French Open champions and Australian Open runners-up Errani and Vinci will
face a third-seeded Czech pairing of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in
Sunday's final. Hlavackova and Hradecka topped a 16th-seeded duo of Taiwan's
Su-Wei Hsieh and Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in the other
semifinal.
Hlavackova and Hradecka captured the French Open title last year and were the
runners-up at Wimbledon in July.
Errani, who lost to Maria Sharapova in the French Open finale in June, beat
her good friend Vinci in a women's singles quarterfinal in Flushing on
Wednesday.
Sunday's winners will split $420,000.
