Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Second-seeded American Sam Querrey
defeated fellow American Rajeev Ram, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), in the semifinals of the
Farmers Classic on Saturday.
Querrey recorded 11 aces and won one of the two break points he faced in the
match, which lasted 96 minutes.
It was the third straight ATP World Tour tournament two Americans faced each
other in the semifinals. Andy Roddick defeated John Isner in Atlanta and Isner
defeated Ryan Harrison in Newport earlier this season.
The 24-year-old Querrey will look to reclaim the Farmers Classic title, an
event he was won twice in the past (2009-10) Sunday when he takes on
Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis.
Earlier, the 22-year-old Berankis, ranked No. 141 in the world, defeated
sixth-seeded Marinko Matosevic, 7-5, 6-1.
Berankis fired three aces and didn't face a break point in the match, which
last just 70 minutes. Berankis upset fourth-seeded Frenchman Nicolas Mahut
on Friday to reach an ATP World Tour semifinal match for the second time in
his career.
