Palermo, Italy (Sports Network) - French Open runner-up Sara Errani was an
easy quarterfinal victor Friday at the $220,000 Italiacom Open.
The top-seeded Errani, of Italy, pleased the home faithful with a 67-minute
6-2, 6-2 drubbing of Romanian Alexandra Cadantu on the red clay at Country
Time Club.
Errani was the 2008 champion and 2009 Palermo runner-up.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old promising Brit Laura Robson grounded fifth-seeded
Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and eighth-seeded Czech Barbora
Zahlavova Strycova upended third-seeded German Julia Goerges 7-6 (7-4), 6-7
(4-7), 6-1.
One other quarterfinal saw Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu overcome Spanish fellow
non-seed Estrella Cabeza Candela, a qualifier this week, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Saturday's semifinals will pit Errani against Begu and Zahlavova Strycova
versus Robson.
