Bad Gastein, Austria (Sports Network) - Third-seeded Ksenia Pervak of Russia
and veteran American Jill Craybas were among the first-round winners Wednesday
at the rain-plagued Gastein Ladies clay-court tennis event.
Pervak overcame Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3), while the
37-year-old Craybas handled Russian Nina Bratchikova 7-5, 6-3 on another wet
day at Hotel Europaischerhof.
In addition to some Wednesday rain, all of Monday's scheduled play was washed
out because of the wet stuff and four matches were either suspended or
postponed because of inclement weather on Tuesday.
In other matches involving seeds on Day 3, Austrian crowd favorite
Yvonne Meusburger upended No. 5 Croat Petra Martic 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), No. 6
Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu bested German Kathrin Woerle 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, and
No. 8 Swede Johanna Larsson doused Slovakian qualifier Jana Cepelova 6-4, 7-6
(7-1). Meusburger was the 2007 runner-up at this event.
Last year's Bad Gastein runner-up, Austria's Patricia Mayr-Achleitner,
advanced Wednesday by peppering compatriot wild card Nicole Rottmann 6-2, 6-3.
Mayr-Achleitner lost to Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in last year's
finale.
Additional first-round wins came for 19-year-old American qualifier Chichi
Scholl and Bulgarian qualifier Dia Evtimova. Scholl whipped Czech Zuzana
Ondraskova 6-3, 6-0.
The 2012 Bad Gastein champion will claim $37,000.
