Bad Gastein, Austria (Sports Network) - Top seed Julia Goerges was a first-
round upset victim Tuesday at the rainy Gastein Ladies clay-court tennis
event.
Goerges was stunned by Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp in come-from-behind
3-6, 6-3, 6-3 fashion on another wet day at Hotel Europaischerhof. Goerges
titled here two years ago.
All of Monday's scheduled play was washed out because of rain and four matches
were either suspended or postponed because of inclement weather on Tuesday.
A pair of top-four seeds advanced Tuesday, as No. 2 Belgian Yanina Wickmayer
dropped Colombian Mariana Duque Marino 6-3, 6-4 and No. 4 Spaniard Carla
Suarez Navarro handled Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-4, 7-5.
In other action involving seeds, Austria's own Yvonne Meusburger was leading
No. 5 Croat Petra Martic 1-0 in the first set and No. 6 Romanian Irina-
Camelia Begu was ahead of German Kathrin Woerle 3-2 in the opening set when
played was called, and No. 7 Alize Cornet of France defeated Romanian Edina
Gallovits-Hall 7-5, 7-5 to reach the round of 16. Meusburger was the 2007
runner-up at this event.
Other Day-2 wins came for Luxembourg's Mandy Minella, German Sarah Gronert,
Spaniard Estrella Cabeza Candela, and Aussie Sacha Jones.
The 2012 Bad Gastein champion will claim $37,000.
