Birmingham, England (Sports Network) - The first day of play at the Wimbledon
tuneup in Birmingham was washed out by rain on Monday.
Five seeded women were on the Day-1 schedule, including No. 10 Romanian Sorana
Cirstea and No. 11 Czech veteran Iveta Benesova.
This week's top seeds are former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone of
Italy and Germany's reigning Birmingham champion Sabine Lisicki, who topped
this week's third seed, Slovak Daniela Hantuchova, in last years finale on the
grass courts at Edgbaston Priory Club.
The winner of the $220,000 Aegon Classic will collect $37,000.
