Melbourne, Australia (Sports Network) - Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva
bested Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci to win the Australian Open women's
doubles title on Friday.
The unseeded Russian duo of Kuznetsova and Zvonareva earned a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3
victory over the 11th-seeded Italian tandem, capturing their first Grand Slam
title as doubles partners.
The two-time Grand Slam singles champion Kuznetsova was an Aussie Open doubles
champion in 2005 and runner-up in 2004. The former Wimbledon and U.S. Open
singles runner-up Zvonareva is a former U.S. Open doubles champ.
Errani was a singles quarterfinal loser in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Kuznetsova and Zvonareva each earned $237,500 for the victory.
