ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Washington Redskins running back Ladell Betts, the fill-in for injured Clinton Portis, was knocked out of the Dallas game with a left knee injury.

Betts apparently got hurt on a hard tackle by Bradie James at the end of a 2-yard gain midway through the first quarter Sunday.

Team trainers checked Betts' knee on the sideline, and a few minutes later it was announced he was out for the game. The extent of the injury wasn't immediately known.

Cornerback DeAngelo Hall sustained a bruised right knee earlier in the game when he was tackled after returning a recovered fumble. He went to the locker room, but returned to the game with a tackle with about six minutes left in the first half.

Betts was starting for Portis, who missed his second straight game because of a concussion. Betts, who ran for 114 yards last week against Denver, finished with four carries for five yards against Dallas.

Portis has not been able to practice since he was injured in a helmet-to-helmet hit against Atlanta.
