New York, NY (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid was
suspended one match and fined $2,000 Friday for "inappropriate public comments
about the officials" Wednesday.
Schmid made comments during and after a 0-0 draw against Real Salt Lake at
CenturyLink Field. The Sounders played the final 60-plus minutes down a man
after Zach Scott was sent off in the first half.
"Sigi Schmid's comments earlier this week about the officiating were
unacceptable. MLS requires that its players, coaches, and club leadership
maintain proper respect for the officials at all times," MLS Commissioner Don
Garber said.
Seattle hosts FC Dallas on Sunday in its last home game of the regular season.
