Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy announced Wednesday that
the club has signed Swedish international Christian Wilhelmsson. The
midfielder will be added to the team's roster pending the receipt of his P-1
visa and International Transfer Certificate.
Wilhelmsson began training with Los Angeles last week and played 58 minutes
for the Galaxy reserve team against the San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old has earned 78 caps for Sweden's national team and has been a
prominent member of the squad for major competitions. He appeared in 12 of
Sweden's 14 games spanning the 2004, 2008 and 2012 European Championships and
the 2006 World Cup.
Wilhelmsson has enjoyed stints with a wealth of European clubs including Roma,
Bolton and Deportivo La Coruna, but joins the Galaxy from Saudi Arabian side
Al-Hilal FC .
