Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham was
suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount Thursday by MLS.
Beckham was punished for "confrontational and provocative behavior" in a game
against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. He kicked the ball at a referee
during the match, a 4-3 loss.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee ruled the conduct "unacceptable and detrimental
to the league's public image."
Beckham will serve his suspension Sunday, when the Galaxy visit the Chicago
Fire.
Los Angeles coach Bruce Arena and Montreal Impact coach Jesse Marsch were also
fined for public criticism of officials.
