Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms
with winger Alexander Semin on a one-year contract worth $7 million.
Semin, who has spent his entire career with the Washington Capitals, has
scored over 20 goals in every season he has played since the NHL lockout in
2004-05.
After five straight seasons in which the enigmatic Russian notched at least 26
goals, Semin was held to 21 last season playing under Dale Hunter in a
defensive-minded system.
"I'm very happy to be a Carolina Hurricane," Semin said. "It's a great fit for
me. I look forward to playing with great players, and putting together a
winning season."
The 28-year-old has 197 goals and 408 points in 469 games and has registered
34 points in 51 career Stanley Cup playoff games.
"Alexander's elite skill level and ability to score from the wing fill an
important need on the ice, and we hope that a fresh start in Carolina will
serve both Alexander and our team well," Hurricanes president and general
manager Jim Rutherford said.
