Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - The NBA's Board of Governors approved changes
Thursday to instant replay to include the designation of flagrant fouls.
Now, when the referee calls a flagrant foul on the court, officials can use
replay to determine if it was a flagrant 1, flagrant 2 or just a common foul.
NBA commissioner David Stern also said Thursday the league would discuss
putting rules in place to prevent flopping.
"That was also referred to the competition committee for more discussion at
the September meeting," Stern said.
The commissioner added there would be a possibility to vote on that issue
prior to the start of the exhibition season.
The Board of Governors also voted to allow referees to use replay in the final
two minutes of regulation or in overtime of games for two scenarios - to
determine if a player was inside the restricted area during block/charge
fouls and to review goaltending calls.
The NBA also indicated it would consider placing small advertising patches on
uniforms, starting with the 2013-14 season as a way to bulk up revenue.
