Fort Myers, FL (Sports Network) - Tony Cruz, Ryan Jackson and Matt Adams all
drove in three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals recorded a 15-4 rout of the
Boston Red Sox in Grapefruit League action.
The Cardinals pounded out 14 hits while also receiving a solid start from
Jaime Garcia in his first outing of the spring. The left-hander scattered
three hits and a walk over two scoreless innings, throwing 13 of his 17
pitches for strikes.
Cruz opened the scoring with a bases-loaded double off Clayton Mortensen in
the top of the third, with Adams slugging a pinch-hit, two-run homer to
highlight a big sixth inning in which the Cardinals scored five times.
Justin Christian added a two-RBI single later on as part of a 2-for-4 day,
with Jackson also collecting a pair of hits and Oscar Tavares finishing 3-
for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Free-agent addition Ryan Dempster pitched well in his Boston debut, with the
veteran striking out two over two shutout frames. Lyle Overbay had an RBI
double in the loss.
