Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann had surgery
Tuesday to repair a troublesome right shoulder that hindered the six-time All-
Star throughout the 2012 season.
Team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Xavier Duralde performed a procedure to the
posterior portion of McCann's shoulder. The Braves do not have a specific
timetable for a recovery as of yet, so it's therefore unknown whether he'll be
ready for the start of next season.
McCann hit 20 homers and drove in 67 runs over 121 games this past year, but
batted a career-low .230 while battling through several subluxations of the
shoulder.
Atlanta holds a $12 million option on McCann, a lifetime .279 hitter who's hit
20 or more homers in six of his eight major league campaigns, for the 2013
season. The team has until three days after the World Series to decide whether
to exercise the clause.
