New York, NY (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey was named
the National League player of the week for the period ending Sept. 30.
Bailey tossed the 15th no-hitter in franchise history last Friday in
Pittsburgh. It marked the first time the Pirates were no-hit since Bob Gibson
accomplished the feat for the Cardinals in 1971.
The right-hander's gem was the seventh no-no thrown in the majors this year,
tying the modern-era record.
Others considered for the weekly award were Los Angeles' Adrian Gonzalez,
Washington's Bryce Harper and Philadelphia's Cole Hamels.
