New York, NY (Sports Network) - Colorado Rockies third baseman Chris Nelson
was named National League player of the week for the period ending Sept. 16.
Nelson batted a major league-best .560 with five RBI and six runs scored last
week while also tallying at least one hit in all six games. Nelson posted five
multi-hit performances and extended his hitting streak to a career-high eight
games during that period.
Other players considered for the award were Philadelphia Phillies shortstop
Jimmy Rollins, Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Minor and San Diego infielder
Logan Forsythe.
