Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Carlos Beltran tied the game with a pinch-
hit RBI single in the eighth inning and David Freese drove home the go-ahead
run in the ninth, as the St. Louis Cardinals outslugged the Washington
Nationals, 10-9, in the third installment of a four-game set.
Matt Carpenter hit a three-run double, while Freese and Matt Holliday both
clubbed two-run homers for the Cardinals, who continue to hold the National
League's final wild-card spot.
St. Louis snapped a four-game losing streak, during which it registered only
one run, and a seven-game skid in the nation's capital.
Cardinals starter Kyle Lohse and his Washington counterpart, Jordan
Zimmermann, were both tagged for eight runs. Only five of the runs Lohse
allowed were earned.
Adam LaRoche knocked in three runs for the NL East-leading Nationals.
