Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Justin
Germano from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations Thursday.
Germano had his contract selected by the Red Sox on July 4 and made one
appearance with the club, allowing no runs on five hits and two walks with
seven strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.
The 29-year-old righty went 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 17 games -- 16 starts --
with Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
To make room on the roster, Chicago designated pitcher Jairo Asencio for
assignment.
Asencio had no decisions and a 3.07 earned run average in 12 appearances out
of the Cubs' bullpen this year.
