Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Saunders
was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained left shoulder.
The move, retroactive to June 17, came one day after Saunders was scratched
from his scheduled start against the Cubs after he was unable to get loose in
the bullpen.
He said after the game it was "a fluke thing" and thought maybe he had slept
on his shoulder wrong. Josh Collmenter and four other pitchers filled in for
Saunders in a 6-1 Arizona win.
Saunders, 31, is 4-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 13 starts this season.
The Diamondbacks recalled right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo from Triple-A Reno
to take his spot.
