WASHINGTON (WUSA) - All is not lost for the Redskins. After beating the Giants 29-27 on the road last week in a game that they were underdogs and now sporting a 1-2 record, the Skins are back home as big favorites against the 0-3 Cleveland Browns. This lines up for the Redskins as a classic let down game, or does it?
"We should win," Redskins Hall of Famer and WUSA 9 Redskins analyst Darrell Green said. "The question is not are we better talent wise but are we mentally? Will we do what we are supposed to do?" Green asked.
It's a great question, because besides the four game win streak to close out the 2015 regular season, consistency has been a huge issue for the Redskins. Week in week out you just don't know what Redskins team will show up.
Will it be the team that we saw against the Giants with playmakers making plays like DeSean Jackson going for a 44 yard touchdown catch from QB Kirk Cousins or WR Jamison Crowder going 55 yards from Cousins as well. Defensively, relative unknowns Quinton Dunbar and Sua'a Cravens had huge interceptions for the Redskins defense against New York.
Or, will it be the team we saw in the first two games of this season where the Redskins failed to get an offensive flow going and committed way too many penalties and turnovers and couldn't tackle anybody. The jury is still very much out.
The Redskins welcome a Browns team with a starting rookie quarterback that is so desperate for a win after giving away a game last week at Miami. Even though winless and on the road, Cleveland's do everything player Terrell Pryor raised some eyebrows by saying the Browns were close to being a pretty good team. "I think we can win all the rest of these games," Pryor stated extremely optimistically this past week. "It depends on our mindset. It depends on how we look at it," Pryor said.
The Redskins can only look at it as a major chance to even their record at 2-2 and get right back in the mix as a contending team. After the 0-2 start and then basically saving the season with a win over the Giants, the Redskins can be relevant once again unless they can't take care of Cleveland.
"We are better than them physically," Darrell Green added. "Will we be more mature and mentally sharper than they are?"
