Redskins vs Steelers: players to watch

WAHINGTON (WUSA) - Players to watch week one vs. Pittsburgh

QB Kirk Cousins.

Ahoy matey, this is now Captain Kirk’s ship. Playing under the $20 million dollar franchise tag, and voted as an offensive captain by his team mates, Cousins is playing with a lot of high expectations this season. We will get a good look at his development and chemistry with his team mates when they face a tough Steelers defense on the national stage

TE Jordan Reed

One of Cousin’s favorite targets is coming off a career year and huge pay day. Reed has a prime opportunity this Monday to make a statement. The Pittsburgh defense may be tough, but they have struggled in the past defending against tight ends

WR Desean Jackson

Monday’s game will be pass happy for both teams, so Cousin’s will be looking for his other favorite target, Desean Jackson. D-Jax had a strong preseason, got challenged at training camp going up against newly signed CB Josh Norman, and is poised for another big season.

CB Josh Norman

Time to put the $75 million dollar man to work. Folks are anxious to see Josh Norman make his regular season debut as a Redskin; and what a way to start. Norman will match-up with Antonio Brown, who was tied for the league lead in yards in 2015, and second in catches. We will see if his one-on-ones with Desean Jackson at training camp helped.

ILB Will Compton

Will Compton was voted one of the 5 Redskins team captains and is the signal caller for the defense. He has a tough task on Monday, trying to study and anticipate the moved of Ben Roethlisberger and the Steeler offense.

RB Robert Kelley

Robert Kelley came into Redskins Park an undrafted free agent, and now could possibly start on MNF. I say start, because Matt Jones is coming off a separated shoulder and is listed as questionable on the injury report. Kelley worked hard in training camp, fought his way up the depth chart and impressed during the preseason and was rewarded with a spot on the Redskins 53 man roster. If he doesn’t start Monday, he will definitely see plenty of action.
