Washington Wizards sign Drew Gooden

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Washington Wizards were obviously impressed with Drew Gooden's impact on the team for the first 20 days he has played with the team, because they signed him up for the rest of the year, according to a news release.

Gooden signed with the Wizards for two consecutive 10 day contracts on February 26 and then again on March 8.

The former Kansas Jayhawk has averaged 8.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game in eight games with the Wizards.

One of his best performances with the team came on Saturday night against the Brooklyn Nets, when he scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. His late three-pointer sparked a comeback to beat the Nets.

The Wizards are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Their record is 35-31 and they're in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. If the playoffs started today, they would face the Chicago Bulls (4).
