Watkins Glen, NY (Sports Network) - Marcos Ambrose prevailed in a frantic
last-lap battle with Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to win at Watkins Glen
International for the second year in a row.
Ambrose, whose first career Sprint Cup Series victory came at this 2.45-mile
road course one year ago, ran in third at the start of the 90th and final lap.
Busch led the way on the last circuit, but Busch spun after Keselowski made
contact with him. That allowed Ambrose to chase down Keselowski for the top
spot.
Ambrose bumped into the rear of Keselowski and took the lead away from him on
turn nine. Ambrose then held off a challenge from Keselowski during the final
two corners to claim the win in Sunday's Finger Lakes 355 at the Glen.
It's the second straight year that Keselowski finished second to Ambrose at
Watkins Glen.
Jimmie Johnson finished third, while Clint Bowyer and Sam Hornish Jr., who is
Keselowski's teammate at Penske Racing, rounded out the top-five. Busch, who
led the most laps with 43, settled for seventh.
Jeff Gordon was running in 10th on the final lap, but Gordon spun out of the
11th corner and slammed into the guardrail. Gordon finished 21st.
After the race, several drivers reported that oil spots were present
throughout the track on the last lap, leading to multiple spins.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished one lap behind in 28th after he spun around coming
out of turn five with seven laps left. Earnhardt Jr. entered this race with
the points lead, but he is now one point behind new leader Johnson.
