The Inside Pitch: Gio Gonzalez

Northwest, D.C. (WUSA9)—Gio Gonzalez version 3.0 is moving along quite nicely thank you very much. The lethal lefty with the winning smile is first among Nats starters in wins through May 1. He's also batting a thousand among fans because the man from Miami is making the district his home away from home.

"You put it like, that's a soft like, I love it out here in D.C," says Gonzalez laughing.

Here's the proof, recently he helped facilitate a local fan's proposal to his girlfriend by working with the youngster to write a personal request on a baseball. Sure enough, the young lady accepted.

Off the diamond Gonzalez is making quite a splash too. He isn't just the most gregarious Nat, he's also leading the way in the style department. Recently WUSA9's Dave Owens caught up with him at an event in Northwest, D.C. and asked him to describe his style.

"I've got Ike Behar here a nice little Cuban family by the way," says Gonzalez smiling.

Gio has been featured in Men's Journal magazine and next month, Men's Fitness is getting it's turn at detailing his dapper duds.

"To me it's an honor to put on a nice suit and look pretty decent, they did a pretty good job making this guy look pretty decent," said Gonzalez laughing.

His trend setting style was put on display recently during his season kickoff party at the STK Restaurant in Northwest, D.C.

"We got nice guests here and hey you're here so that's another big plus," said Gio smiling.

So it's full speed ahead, Gio's prediction for the 2014 season.

"The sky's the limit, you gotta keep going," says Gonzalez.
