Nats, Detwiler avoid salary arbitration

WASHINGTON - Ross Detwiler signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals, and avoided salary arbitration.

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Joel Sherman of the NY Post reports that the Nationals pitcher's deal is $3 million for one season.

Detwiler appeared in just 13 games in an injury plagued 2013. The Nationals pitcher last played in a July 3, loss to Milwaukee.

In Detwiler's 13 starts last season, the pitcher had a 2-7 record with a 4.04 ERA.

Ross Detwiler is expected to compete for the fifth spot in the Nationals' rotation. If he doesn't win a spot in the rotation, Detwiler would head to the bullpen where he could pitch long-relief.
