Maryland extends Coach Mark Turgeon's contract

COLLEGE PARK, MD. (WUSA9) - Four More Years! The Terps have signed Mark Turgeon to a contract extension.

Mark Turgeon isn't going anywhere anytime soon as Maryland's basketball coach.Turgeon, entering his sixth season with the Terps, was rewarded with a contract extension by the school that keeps him on board at least through the 2022-23 season.

Under Turgeon last year, Maryland returned to the NCAA's Sweet 16 for the first time since 2003 In the last two seasons,Turgeon has helped Maryland get ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 for 35 straight weeks, including 20 weeks in the Top 10.

During the 2014-15 season, Turgeon was named the Big 10 Coach of the Year after leading the Terps to a school-record 26 regular-seaosn wins and 28 wins overall as they advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

"My family and I love the University of Maryland, the basketball program, the campus community and the local community and I am extremely grateful to be the coach of this outstanding program," Turgeon said in a statement.

"I am in this position because of the talented coaches and student athletes that I have had the opportunity to work with over the past five years. Their commitment to our program is why Maryland basketball continues to have an exciting and bright future."
