Machado, Trumbo power Orioles past Rays, 2 - 1

BALTIMORE (WUSA) - Mark Trumbo hit his major league-leading 43rd home run to break an eighth-inning tie and carry the Baltimore Orioles past the Tampa Bay Rays, 2-1 on Sunday.
Manny Machado also homered for the Orioles, who salvaged a split of the four-game series against the last-place Rays.
Baltimore came in trailing first-place Boston by three games in the AL East and tied with Toronto for the two AL wild cards. The Red Sox and Orioles begin a four-game series at Camden Yards on Monday night.
After missing two straight games with back spasms, Trumbo returned to provide Baltimore with a much-needed win. With one out in the eighth, the Orioles' cleanup hitter drove the first pitch from Ryan Garton (1-1) far over the center-field wall.
Brad Brach (10-3) pitched the eighth and Zach Britton got three outs for his 45th save in 45 tries.
