Sherwood Football: 'Stay Humble, Stay Hungry'

SANDY SPRING, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Sherwood High School's head coach Chris Grier said he has realistic expectations for the upcoming football season.

He said his expectations are for the team to improve on what they did last year.

"I don't want the team getting caught up in expectations," Grier said. "We're focusing on having the guys do what the coaches tell them."

Grier said the players are still identifying themselves as a team. He said he's content with gaining one more win than last year.

"We had a really good offseason," Grier said. "The players have great commitment and we're really excited about the upcoming season."

He said they've been having good practices and he is excited about the entire team.

"Our goal is to keep our focus from week to week," Grier said.

The team begins practicing in football pads this week, but Grier said the Warriors have been working out vigorously from January through July.

Sherwood's first game is against Gaithersburg at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 5.
