Severna Park Field Hockey: Voted Likely to Repeat Title

SEVERNA PARK, Md. (WUSA 9) -- Severna Park coach Ann Andrews said having a tough playing area has helped the field hockey team stay focused for a repeat championship.

"Other teams push us to be better," Andrews said. "Having so much talent around us makes us stay calm and focused."

She said the team doesn't talk about last season's championship win. Andrews said it's a new team and she just wants them to play well.

"It's not their responsibility to win," Andrews said. "It's their responsibility to play well."

Last year, Andrews said, the team was mostly juniors. She said almost the entire starting lineup is returning this season.

"The team is different," Andrews said. "Not better or worse, they just play with different chemistry."

She also said the team is facing four big games this season. Andrews said Broadneck, South River, Arundel and Chesapeake are all strong programs the Falcons are up against.

"I'm trying to prepare them for playoffs," Andrews said. "I look for the toughest teams."

Severna Park's first game is against rival Broadneck at 4 p.m., Sept. 5.
