Lake Braddock Football: Slow Start, Strong Finish

BURKE, Va. (WUSA 9) -- Lake Braddock coach Jim Poythress said the 2014 Bruins football team anticipates a sluggish opening to the season.

He said the team is very young this season and is excited to get started.

"It will probably be a slow start," Poythress said. "But I expect the team to gain more steam near the end of the season."

Poythress said the team has weaknesses that need to be worked on and improved.

"We hope to be one of the better teams in the state at the end of the season," he said.

Some returning players are rising seniors wide receiver/defensive back A.J. Alexander and defensive back Dejoun Lee. Poythress said Alexander and Lee are leaders on the team.

"Both are dominant players," he said.

Lake Braddock's first game is against West Potomac High School at 7:30 p.m. on August 29.
