Irma concerns cause cancellation of game involving local team

The pending arrival of Hurricane Irma has forced the cancellation of St. John's College High School at the IMG Academy.

WASHINGTON (WUSA) - St. John's College High School will not be traveling to Florida next week.

St. John's was scheduled to play a game on September 15, against the IMG Academy, but the game has been cancelled due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Irma.

St. John's College High School released the following statement:

It simply isn’t the right thing to do for many reasons, most importantly the safety of both the SJC and IMG players, coaches and fans. We also recognize that our friends and colleagues in Florida need to be completely focused on preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Irma and for the damage that this storm is likely to inflict across the state. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those in the storm’s path, as well as with those who have already experienced Irma’s impact.

The game will not be rescheduled.
