Orioles say they won't dangle young arms for trade

BALTIMORE (AP) - Orioles vice president Dan Duquette says the team has no intention of trading young pitching talent, and he quelled rumors that Baltimore is close to landing Red Sox lefty Jon Lester.

As Major League Baseball approaches Thursday's non-waiver trade deadline, Duquette said Wednesday that the AL East-leading Orioles "have a couple of active discussions."

But he likely won't trade young pitchers such as Kevin Gausman, Dylan Bundy or Hunter Harvey.

Duquette says the team's pitching prospects "are very valuable to the long-term sustainability of the organization."

Lester is 10-7 with a 2.52 ERA. His contract ends after this season.

Duquette said the Orioles would love to add a solid starting pitcher, but when asked to address rumors of Baltimore chasing Lester, he replied, "That would be news to me."
