Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Nick Florence threw for three touchdowns and also
ran one in to lead the Baylor Bears to a 41-14 rout of the Kansas Jayhawks in
Big 12 action at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Florence completed 26-of-42 pass attempts for 367 yards for Baylor (4-4, 1-4
Big 12) which ended a four game losing streak en route to its first conference
victory this season. Glasco Martin (157) and Lache Seastrunk (103) each racked
up over 100 yards on the ground. Seastrunk also had 91 yards receiving but it
was Terrance Williams and Tevin Reese who were the most productive. Williams
hauled in 11 passes for 137 yards and a score while Reese had seven receptions
for 97 yards and a touchdown.
Michael Cummings managed only 81 yards passing by completing 9-of-19 pass
attempts while being intercepted twice for Kansas (1-8, 0-6). James Sims
rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 21 attempts. Kansas has now lost 19
straight games against FBS opponents.
Florence finished off an 11-play, 84-yard drive on Baylor's opening possession
with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Williams.
After a three-and-out from the Jayhawks the Bears took no time putting more
points on the scoreboard. Florence threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to
Seastrunk on the first play of Baylor's next possession.
Sims broke off a 58-yard touchdown run midway through the first period to cut
the Jayhawks' deficit in half.
Baylor answered with a 35-yard field goal from Aaron Jones.
After both teams were quiet for most of the second quarter, Kansas made it a
one-score game when Cummings scored on a 22-yard touchdown run with less than
six minutes left before halftime.
Jones connected on a 22-yard field goal when a 16-play drive stalled for
Baylor on its next possession.
The game was delayed before the beginning of the third quarter due to
lightning.
After the delay Baylor stretched its lead to 27-14 on a one-yard rushing
touchdown from Bryce Petty.
Florence scored a rushing touchdown from seven yards out later in the third
quarter as the Bears continued to pull away.
Baylor would get another touchdown, this time on a 40-yard pass from Florence
to Reese, early in the fourth quarter.
Baylor racked up 666 yards of total offense and 32 first downs while Kansas
had 342 total yards and 17 first downs.
