Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Bradley Randle recorded 130 total yards and
scored three touchdowns as the UNLV Rebels made easy work of the New Mexico
Lobos, 35-7, in Mountain West Conference action at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Randle rushed for 113 yards and a pair of scores on just 12 carries and added
a 17-yard touchdown reception for UNLV (2-8, 1-3 MWC), which snapped a five-
game losing streak. Nick Sherry completed 17-of-27 passes for 289 yards with
two touchdowns and two interceptions, with the majority of that production
going to Devante Davis (seven reception, 145 yards, TD). Tim Cornett also
topped the century mark on the ground, carrying the ball nine times for 107
yards and a score.
New Mexico (4-5, 1-3) rushed the ball 65 times for 307 yards, led by Chase
Clayton with a career-high 75 yards. It was the eighth time this season it has
rushed for at least 300 yards in a game. Cole Gautsche threw the ball just six
times, completing three of those attempts for 43 yards while also throwing a
pick. The Lobos are now losers of three in a row.
The only score of the first quarter came on a 17-yard rushing touchdown from
Cornett to give UNLV an early lead.
The Rebels padded their advantage in the second quarter. First, Sherry hooked
up with Randle on a 17-yard touchdown pass, then Randle got into the act on
the ground later in the quarter with a nine-yard rushing score. UNLV held New
Mexico to just 110 yards of offense in the first half, and it took a 21-0 lead
into intermission.
New Mexico finally found the scoreboard midway through the third quarter on a
five-yard touchdown run from Carlos Wiggins, but UNLV answered later in the
quarter as Sherry connected on a 75-yard scoring strike to Davis.
The Rebels continued to show big-play ability in the fourth quarter as Randle
ripped off a 58-yard scoring rush to put the game out of reach.
UNLV won despite having a big disadvantage in terms of time of possession. The
Rebels controlled the ball for less than 19 minutes.
