Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Corey Robinson passed for 274 yards and two
touchdowns as the Troy Trojans held on the defeat the North Texas Mean Green,
14-7, in Sun Belt Conference action at Apogee Stadium.
Robinson completed 29-of-42 passes for Troy (2-2, 1-1 Sun Belt), which had lost
back-to- back games prior to the victory. Chip Reeves was the primary
beneficiary of Robinson's passes, hauling in seven catches for 120 yards and a
touchdown. Eric Thomas (36 yards) also caught seven balls.
For North Texas (1-3, 0-1), Derek Thompson threw for 236 yards and a touchdown,
but connected on just 12 of his 28 pass attempts. Ivan Delgado had six catches
for 126 yards and Brelan Chancellor tallied four catches for 107 yards, but the
rest of the team combined for only three receiving yards. Antoinne Jimmerson
led all rushers with 75 yards on the ground.
North Texas got the scoring started midway through the first quarter when
Thompson connected on a 50-yard touchdown strike to Chancellor.
It took until there was just one minute left in the second quarter for Troy to
retaliate. Robinson completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jaquon Robinson to
tie the game at 7-7.
The Trojans took the lead early in the third quarter after Robinson hooked up
with Reeves on a 76-yard touchdown pass.
With Zach Olen and Zach Paul combining to go 0-of-3 on field goal attempts in
the game, North Texas chose to abandon the kicking game in the fourth quarter,
however the decision resulted in a pair of turnover-on-downs for the Mean Green
inside the red zone.
Troy was able to run out the clock in the game's final 5:47 to hold on for the
win.
The Mean Green converted just 2-of-14 third downs, while the Trojans made good
on eight of their 18 attempts.
