Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Two Seawolves scored 20 points each to guide
Stony Brook over the Massachusetts Minutemen, 71-58, in first round action of
the National Invitational Tournament at the Mullins Center.
Anthony Jackson and Dave Coley were the two 20-point scorers for Stony Brook
(25-7) which will face Iowa in the second round. Jackson shot 4-of-5 from 3-
point range while Coley recorded five steals. Jameel Warney added 16 points
and a pair of blocks. It was the first-ever win in the NIT for the Sea Wolves.
UMass (21-12) was led by Freddie Riley who scored 16 points with four steals.
Terrell Vinson added 11 points as the Minutemen's season came to a close.
Leading scorer Chaz Williams had just two points on 1-of-3 shooting.
The Seawolves shot 51.6 percent from the field in the first half and held
UMass to 30.0 percent shooting as they carried a 38-25 lead into halftime.
In the second half Stony Brook shot 52.0 percent from the field while the
Minutemen knocked down five 3-pointers. However UMass could get no closer
than six points in the last 20 minutes.
The Minutemen shot just 36.7 percent from the floor and 6-of-26 from long-
range while their 19 turnovers resulted in 23 points for the Sea Wolves.
