Sioux Falls, SD (Sports Network) - Frank Gaines scored a game-high 23 points
and Luis Jacobo posted a double-double as the fifth-seed IUPU-Fort Wayne
Mastodons posted a 91-72 victory over the fourth-seed Oakland Golden Grizzlies
in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament at Sioux Falls Arena.
Jacobo had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Michael Kibiloski added 15 points for
IPFW (16-16) which advances to face top-seed South Dakota State in Monday's
semifinals.
Travis Bader put in 18 points, Ryan Bass added 16, Dante Williams had 14 and
Drew Valentine netted 10 for Oakland (16-16).
At the end of the first half IPFW led 38-30 by shooting 56 percent from the
field, including a 9-of-13 effort from beyond the arc. Oakland shot at just a
36 percent clip in the first 20 minutes.
After halftime the Golden Grizzlies again struggled, connecting on just 34.1
percent from the field. Meanwhile the Mastodons heated up to nearly 70 percent
shooting while notching 18 points from the free-throw line to collect the win.
Oakland got 72 points from its reserves in the contest. IPFW had a 44-25
edge in rebounds.
