Springfield, MA (Sports Network) - Rhamel Brown recorded a double-double with
12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Manhattan Jaspers held on to
defeat the Greyhounds of Loyola-Maryland, 55-52, in the quarterfinals of the
MAAC Tournament at MassMutual Center.
Shane Richards, RaShawn Stores and Emmy Andujar all tallied nine points for
the sixth-seeded Jaspers (13-17) in the triumph.
The third-seeded Greyhounds (21-11) were paced by Dylon Cormier who posted 14
points and seven rebounds, followed by Anthony Winbush with 12 points and six
boards. Erik Etherly finished the night with a mere six points as he shot 1-
of-10 from the floor.
Both teams had trouble finding the basket in the first half, but even with
Loyola converting a meager 31.8 percent from the floor, the team was able to
stay within four points at the break, 34-30, after converting all 12 chances
at the free-throw line over the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half again the squads had their issues from the field, yet even
6-of-19 shooting for Manhattan was enough to keep the Jaspers out in front
when it counted the most.
Each team made 16 field goals, five beyond the arc, so the difference took
place at the charity stripe where the Jaspers held an 18-15 edge.
Manhattan now takes on seventh-seeded Fairfield in the semifinals of the
tournament on Sunday afternoon for the right to take part in the title game on
Monday night.
