Washington, DC (Sports Network) - It certainly didn't have the drama of past
Syracuse-Georgetown matchups, as the Hoyas completely dominated the final Big
East meeting between the long-time rivals Saturday at the Verizon Center.
Markel Starks scored 19 points and D'Vaun Smith-Rivera added 15, as the fifth-
ranked Hoyas pulled away in the second half for a 61-39 victory over the
Orange. Georgetown earned a share of the Big East regular-season title and
also wrapped up the top overall seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Otto Porter carried Georgetown to a victory at Syracuse two weeks ago with 33
points, but didn't make a shot from the floor until the second half in this
one. He finished with 10 points as the Hoyas (24-5, 14-4 Big East) bounced
back from Wednesday's loss at Villanova to win for the 12th time in their last
13 games. Michael Carter-Williams was the lone Syracuse player in double
figures with 17 points. C.J. Fair added nine for the Orange (23-8, 11-7),
who closed the regular season with four losses in five games and failed to
earn a double-bye in the upcoming Big East Tournament.
Final Score: Kentucky 61, (11) Florida 57
Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Back-to-back road losses had dealt a major
blow to Kentucky's NCAA Tournament hopes. But the defending champs returned
to Rupp Arena to close the regular season and got their signature win. Archie
Goodwin netted 16 points in the Wildcats' 61-57 triumph over No. 11
Florida. Kentucky (21-10, 12-6 SEC) netted the final 11 points of the contest.
The Gators' leading scorer, Kenny Boynton, didn't take his first second-half
shot until there was 15 ticks on the clock and his team down 59-57. And his
pull-up jumper from the right wing clanked off the rim before the Wildcats'
Julius Mays sunk two game-sealing free throws at the other end. Florida (24-6,
14-4) didn't record a point over the final 7:36 of game action.
Final Score: (25) Memphis 86, UAB 71
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Chris Crawford scored 20 points and led No. 25
Memphis to an 86-71 win over UAB on Saturday. Geron Johnson added 19 points
and Joe Jackson had 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Tigers
(27-4, 16-0 C-USA), who finished the regular season on a three-game
winning streak. Memphis will be the top overall seed with a first-round bye
in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament. Jordan Swing scored 19 points and
grabbed seven boards and Rod Rucker had 16 points for the Blazers (15-16,
