St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Carl Hall tallied a double-double with 18
points and 12 rebounds to lead the second-seeded Wichita State Shockers past
the seventh-seeded Missouri State Bears, 69-59, in the quarterfinal round of
the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at the Scottrade Center.
Ron Baker came off the bench to pour in 15 points for Wichita State (25-7),
which will play the winner of Northern Iowa/Illinois State in the semifinals
on Saturday.
For Missouri State (11-22), Marcus Marshall led all scorers with 25 points on
4-of-10 from 3-point range and 13-of-16 from the foul line. Anthony Downing
and Keith Pickens netted 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Wichita State shot a modest 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, but
it also held Missouri State an even worse 30.4 percent, as it carried a 29-24
lead into intermission.
The Shockers extended their lead to 10 with just over 14 minutes left in the
game before the Bears ripped off a 12-2 run to tie the game, 46-46, with 7:56
remaining, but Wichita State answered with a 12-1 surge to pull away.
Wichita State dominated the rebounding battle, 43-24.
