San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Johnny Dee scored 16 points to lead the
sixth-seeded San Diego Toreros into the West Coast Conference Tournament
quarterfinals with a 62-59 victory over the seventh-seeded Pepperdine Waves at
Orleans Arena.
Chris Anderson added 10 points and Chris Manresa had 11 points and was a point
shy of a double-double for San Diego (15-17) which takes on No. 3 seed BYU in
the next round.
Stacy Davis had a game-high 19 points and 11 rebounds and Lorne Jackson
tallied 10 points for Pepperdine (12-18).
At the half San Diego held a 32-29 lead despite shooting 40 percent from the
field as the team hit 4-of-12 shots from beyond the arc.The Waves shot 47.8
percent from the floor but had just a pair of triples.
In the second half the Toreros shot a superior 42.9 percent from the floor as
compared to the 40 percent effort from the Waves. Pepperdine pulled within
three points three times in the final minute but was never able to get any
closer.
San Diego had a 33-30 edge in rebounds and forced 18 turnovers from the Waves.
