St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Chris Hines scored 16 points for the ninth-
seeded Drake Bulldogs who dispatched the eighth-seeded Bradley Braves, 81-66,
in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at the
Scottrade Center.
Joey King added 15 points off bench and Gary Ricks contributed 14 points,
also as a reserve, for Drake (15-16).
Jake Eastman scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds, Will Egolf also had
15 points, Walt Lemon Jr. tallied 14 points and six assists while Tyshon
Pickett tacked on 11 points for Bradley (16-16).
The Bulldogs played well in the first half as they shot 53.3 percent from
the field and drilled 7-of-15 attempts from 3-point range. With Bradley
shooting at a 44.8 percent rate the Bulldogs led 41-32 going into the break.
After halftime the Bulldogs shot a solid 45.8 percent from the floor, made
five 3-pointers and nailed 13-of-16 attempts from the free-throw line to
cruise into the quarterfinals where they will face top seed Creighton.
Drake connected on 12 shots from beyond the arc in the contest and outscored
the Braves 15-5 from the charity stripe.
