Greenville, NC (Sports Network) - Maurice Kemp went for 29 points and nine
rebounds to lead the East Carolina Pirates to an 88-85 win over the Tulane
Green Wave in a Conference USA clash at Minges Coliseum.
Akeem Richmond made five triples en route to 21 points off the bench for ECU
(17-11, 8-7 C-USA). Miguel Paul had 13 points and 11 assists for his fifth
double-double of the season, and Paris Campbell had 15 points.
Josh Davis was terrific for Tulane (18-12, 6-9) despite the loss, tallying 23
points and 16 rebounds. Ricky Tarrant contributed 20 points and eight assists,
Jordan Callahan scored 17 points and Louis Dabney had 11 points off the bench.
Davis matched the entire ECU lineup with 10 rebounds at halftime as Tulane
went into the locker rooms ahead, 41-40. The Green Wave shot 5-of-8 from
downtown and 51.6 percent overall in the period.
ECU opened the second half on a 16-4 run, but Tulane responded and tied the
score at 65-65 with 10 minutes remaining in the contest. The two teams traded
baskets for the rest of the game until Richmond scored five straight points to
give the Pirates an 86-82 edge with 18 seconds left. Tarrant hit a 3-pointer
on the other end to bring Tulane to within one, but after Paul made both of
his free throws, the Green Wave failed to get a final look at the basket.
ECU improved to 7-9 all-time against Tulane.
