Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Led by 14 points from Zeke Marshall, the Akron
Zips downed the Miami-Ohio RedHawks, 72-58, in a Mid-American Conference tilt
at James A. Rhodes Arena.
For the Zips (24-5, 14-1 MAC), Nick Harney added 13 points, Alex Abreu scored
12 points and Demetrius Treadwell chipped in with 10 points.
Jon Harris led the RedHawks (8-20, 3-12) with a game-high 21 points, while
Will Felder finished with 11 points and Vince Legarza tallied 10 points.
Miami-Ohio has now lost eight in a row.
Akron shot 46.2 percent from the field to open the contest and took a 31-28
lead into intermission. Miami-Ohio shot 41.9 percent in the opening period and
was just 2-of-6 from 3-point range.
In the second half, both teams heated up from the field. The Zips connected on
53.6 percent from the field, including 6-of-14 from 3-point distance. The
RedHawks hit on 52.6 percent from the field and 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point
arc. Akron opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take control of the contest
and Miami-Ohio never threatened again.
The Zips outscored the RedHawks 31-8 in points off of turnovers. The RedHawks
had the edge in points in the paint, 32-30.
