Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Devon Saddler had 22 points and Jarvis Threatt
scored 20, as the Delaware Blue Hens closed out the CAA regular season with an
82-77 win over the George Mason Patriots at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Reserve Kyle Anderson chipped in with 17 points for the Blue Hens (18-13, 13-5
CAA), who have won four in a row and swept the season series with George Mason
for the first time ever. They will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAA
Tournament. Jamelle Hagins recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-
high 14 rebounds.
The Patriots (17-13, 10-8) lost on the road for the first time in five tries,
despite a career-high 21 points off the bench from Mark Gujanicic and another
20 from Sherrod Wright. Vertrail Vaughns also had a big day off the bench with
16 points.
UD shot 57.9 percent from the floor and made 17-of-20 free throws in the first
half. Still, the Blue Hens never led by more than seven in the half, which
ended in a 41-41 tie.
George Mason took a 10-point lead on a 3-pointer by Vaughns with 9:12 to play
in regulation. However, the Blue Hens rallied to tie the game at 74-74 on a
pair of free throws by Threatt, who scored nine of his 20 points in the final
1:22 to help lift his team to victory.
The Blue Hens, who shot 26-of-31 at the foul line for the game, enter
postseason play winners of 10 of their last 12 outings.
