Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Derrick Barden posted a double-double to lead
the Northern Colorado Bears to an 88-80 overtime victory over the Eastern
Washington Eagles in Big Sky action at Reese Court.
Barden finished with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, Tate Unruh added
21 points and Tevin Svihovec put in 16 points for Northern Colorado (10-17,
8-10 Big Sky) which ended a two-game skid.
For Eastern Washington (9-19, 6-11) Tyler Harvey scored 22 points, Venky
Jois tacked on 14, Collin Chiverton had 11 off the bench and Parker Kelly
registered 10. Martin Seiferth also posted a double-double in the Eagles'
fourth win in the last five games with 11 points and a career-high 21
rebounds.
Northern Colorado clung to a 37-36 lead at halftime after connecting on
15-of-31 shots from the floor. The Eagles also recorded 15 field goals in
the first 20 minutes but also had 10 turnovers.
After the break the Bears shot at just a 37.1 percent clip but had 10
more attempts from the field thanks to another 10 turnovers from Eastern
Washington. The Bears actually trailed, 72-69 with just under a minute to
play but Unruh nailed a 3-pointer and with neither team scoring the rest of
the way, overtime was needed.
The Bears scored the first five points of overtime and never looked back
going 8-of-11 from the free-throw to secure the victory.
Turnovers told the story for Northern Colorado which forced 22 miscues from
Eastern Washington while holding a 24-14 edge in points off takeaways.
